Too many yiggas not enough ho's
After 832 entries and 5767 comments I'm leaving you because I love you too much and it's really unhealthy

Reading the archives my life hasn't changed over the years - it's scary.

Oh and here's an old blury pic I took roughly at this time in 2004.

So, yigga, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 8% unique (blame, for example, your interest in ultra glitchy glitch) and 3% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy techno). When it comes to friends you are popular. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are keen to please. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is intellectual.

Your overall weirdness is: 59

(The average level of weirdness is: 27.
You are weirder than 93% of other LJers.)

Find out what your weirdness level is!

I met Jill on Makeoutclub.com (lol!) and we went to The Wildbunch, or were they called the Electric Six, at Trash or was it Gabba - the Ramones style Abba cover band - at the Great Eastern Hotel - I dunno, but somehow she just didn't fall for my charms and fly garms and we became friends.

Since she moved back to the States I've hardly seen her. I remember meeting her at that roof top hipster place under the Wiliamsburg bridge and Avi called her stupid and she was upset for a day or two. I guess she didn't get Avi's humour.

Anyway, it's scary - everybody is having kids!

I'm the star, I am the big dipper. [Jul. 27th, 2008|12:19 pm]

Last week my Faggatronix remix got played at Fabric, Herbal, Nottinghill Arts Club and Kiss FM - I'm big news - many leather bound books etc. I'm such a huge star promoters don't put me on the flyer in case their nights sell out too quickly.

DJ VENOM - FREESTYLE SET - I'm so proud I'm playing my favourite type of music in a really good slot at an excellent night but everybody will be at Our Disco so poo.

VENOM & DAMAGE - UK BASS SET - The DJ debut from the Kings of UK Bass.

Blood, sweat and toil [Jul. 21st, 2008|10:48 am]

It’s just 40 minutes of audio but I’ve given everything to make this new podcast with Ben for Lower End Spasm. It’s been hard slog and I persevered after many setbacks.

The previous mix, Maximum Carnage, was comparatively simple to produce – I was blessed with a new untapped music scene called Bassline and a DJ Assault sample to piss around with. Now bass music is everywhere and for this mix I had create something out of a dull uninspired nothing.

It’s a disjointed mess but there are a few moments from about 18 minutes that sound like pure MDMA. Listen to it, get hype and feel the love. This won’t be the best thing I’ll ever do but I’m still proud.

1.53 – Becky Rhodes – Angry – too cheesy for Bok Bok but this song is deep to me – something really genuine in the vocal delivery
5.13 – Me and Ben – Paradise Slugs VIP – this was hardwork – this is the 61st version! Bok Bok doesn’t like this either but I’m positive it would cause a frenzy on the dancefloor.
9.35 – Taio Cruz – Come On Girl – I wish all the tracks were like this – this is dedicated to Manara.
19.20 – Starkey into Me and Ben into Crookers into Drop The Lime and beyond – I dunno how we ended up making an electro house mix – I hate electrohouse but wtf – this is great!
32.30 – Me and Ben – Nosebreak – all the other tracks we made took weeks – actually months - this took 30 mins and it’s SO jacking. I wanna dry hump against the walls to it.

Shout outs to Ben – for his patience accommodating my studio rages. Bok Bok for making me do this - thanks. Manara for keeping Bok Bok sane. Philippa for the love and support through the good and bad times. Zara, Risa, Pickles and all of you - you’ve all helped me – love you. Sorry if this sounds like an Oscar acceptance speech.

I dislike dubstep. The only good tune in the whole genre is Rusko's Cockney Thug.

It's about one year old but it still gets played lots - this weekend I heard it four times! It's really dumb - just a single note bassline, a cheesy trumpet and sample that goes "FUCK"!

I hate Cockey Thug as much as I love it but if I hear it, or one of the many remixes, in a club one more time I will get violent.

I don't know how it happened but this weekend's party was fun considering how last minute it was. So yeah... I MIGHT do this...

and your host DJ VENOM

9PM - 4AM FREE ENTRY - LAST ENTRY 2AM. Or maybe I'll have less DJs and book a great band like the Kasms. I dunno... yet.

My name’s Daniel and I’m a bit slow [Jul. 12th, 2008|02:08 pm]

Approximately five years ago at a BBQ in Ealing Alex_Tea introduced me to Dizzee Rascal within months, like every other hipster, I had embraced everything about Dizzee and the grime genre. Yet after two years of unparalleled excitement the genre became stale and entered self-parody. Why grime died…
1. Dirty Canvas – Long before grime caught on among outside the original demographic real grime raves had been shut down because of violence. Subsequently MCs could only play at Shoreditch clubs. Unfortunately the only Shoreditch promoters that succeeded, Dirty Canvas, put on tediously predictable nights – nothing happened – nobody danced – people just sat around waiting until the last 30 mins where all the MCs would get on stage and get shower – snore.
2. Grindie – The indie kids wanted a piece of grime as much as the MCs who played Shoreditch indie clubs wanted more success so they created a NME friendly hybrid. It was still too weird for the indie kids and too shit for the grime fans. It also unfortunately made the genre look tame to hipsters who were originally enthralled by the dangerous aspects. When Roll Deep played Tape Deck’s night I cried.
3. Major label releases – Pow, I Luv U and Wot U Call It? were successful great! So some bright sparks at the record labels believed they could make the sound go further if they watered it down making it more radio friendly – unfortunately this had the side effect of making it pointless.
4. Failure to embrace dance music – perhaps because all the raves got shut down and the producers and MCs were only playing to indie kids they ditched all the dancefloor elements that are needed for any genre to become successful. Bassline has done far better for this reason. In 2008 they worked this out and now Wiley raps on shit electrohouse tunes but it’s all too late.

After am afternoon of "OMG! why the fuck am I doing this!" I'm really excited about my lnight. I organised it in 10 minutes yesterday afternoon! You'd never have guessed would you?

Come to the Korsan on Saturday. Philippa Cardinal, Ralph Cowling and Bok Bok will be playing. The venue are really nice and I'm planning a thing in August with Louis Enchante and Melanie Houston but it might not be as retarded as this Saturday where I'll be playing songs like this...

And this
